Footage of a shocking bridge collapse in Baltimore is drawing comparisons online to a recent film by Barack and Michelle Obama about a cargo ship that comes under attack.

The White House said the incident in which a cargo ship crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore did not appear to have malicious intent and there were no signs of terrorism or a cyberattack.

But online users pointed out similarities between the footage of the collapse and a scene from Leave The World Behind, the first fiction film created by Barack and Michelle Obama for Netflix. The film, directed by Sam Esmail and starring Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Kevin Bacon, and Ethan Hawke, depicts an oil tanker named the White Lion on the shore amidst crowds of horrified tourists. There is a scene where there is a crash along the road.

“In 2023, the Obamas made a movie called ‘Leave the World Behind,’ in which a huge container ship loses power and crashes due to a cyber attack,” said Matt Wallace of X’s 1.6 million people. I wrote this to my followers. It crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, causing its fatal collapse. ”

“In the movie, leave the world behindA huge cargo ship loses power and crashes on the shore. Coincidentally, a cargo ship lost power and crashed into the Francis Scott Bridge. Was this predictive programming? Friends, we live in days of deception. Call Jesus,” the user wrote.

According to Netflix’s description, the film revolves around a family vacation in a luxury rental home that takes a sinister turn when a cyberattack destroys the device and two strangers show up at the door. is. Under the same roof, the family faces bizarre apocalyptic events, including a plane crash, a herd of deer invading the backyard, and the mysterious loss of one of the child’s teeth.

According to Vanity Fair, one of the characters begins to theorize that the events “could be the result of a military operation aimed at destabilizing the nation by turning people against each other.”

Released in 2023, Leave The World Behind is the first fictional film executive produced by a former president and first lady through Higher Ground Productions, which has a multi-year deal with Netflix.

Investigators began collecting evidence Wednesday from the Port of Baltimore, where divers searched through twisted metal for six construction workers who were feared dead.

The investigation accelerated as the Baltimore region reeled from the sudden loss of a major transportation link, part of a freeway that circles the city. The disaster also closed the city’s port, which is important for the shipping industry. NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said National Transportation Safety Board officials planned to board the ship and recover information from electronic devices and documents.

The agency is also examining navigational data recorders recovered by the Coast Guard and building a timeline of the events that led to the crash, which federal and state authorities say appears to be an accident.

The ship’s crew issued a distress call early Tuesday morning, saying the ship lost control systems and power several minutes before colliding with one of the bridge pillars.

Video showed the ship moving toward the 2.6-mile bridge at about 9 mph, announced by Maryland Gov. Wes Moore.

Traffic was still moving across the span, and some vehicles appeared to have escaped with seconds to spare. The impact caused the span to break and fall into the water within seconds.

A last-minute warning from the ship gave police enough time to stop traffic on the interstate. One of his officers parked sideways across the lane, intending to drive onto the bridge and warn construction workers when another officer arrived. However, he never got a chance as the powerless ship rammed into the bridge.

The container ship Dali and its past also attracted attention. Synergy Marine Group, which manages the ship, said the accident occurred under the control of one or more pilots who are local experts in guiding ships safely into and out of ports. The ship, which was headed from Baltimore to Sri Lanka, is owned by Grace Ocean Private Limited, and Danish shipping giant Maersk announced it had been chartered.

The ship passed inspections by foreign port states in June and September. Singapore’s Port Authority said in a statement on Wednesday that an inspection in June revealed a problem with the fuel pressure monitor gauge, which was corrected before departure. The ship is Singapore-flagged and Singaporean officials said they would conduct their own investigation in addition to assistance from U.S. authorities.

The sudden loss of a major transportation link that circulates through the city and transports 30,000 vehicles a day, disrupting a vital shipping port, could disrupt not only thousands of longshoremen and commuters, but also shipping. It also affects U.S. consumers who may experience delays.
