Baltimore bridge collapse: Fifth body recovered from Francis Scott Key Bridge wreckage

Divers searching the remains of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, have discovered a fifth body.

The Key Bridge Response Unified Command announced that a salvage team recovered the victim’s body after finding the missing construction vehicle in the Patapsco River, FOX 5 Washington, D.C. reports. The worker then called Maryland State Police.

The recovered victim was identified as Miguel Angel Luna Gonzalez, 49, of Glen Burnie.

“We continue our ongoing recovery efforts, knowing that behind each person lost in this tragedy is a loving family,” Maryland State Police Col. Roland L. Butler Jr. said in a press release. I am working with dedication.” “Along with our local, state and federal partners, we ask everyone to extend our deepest sympathies and support to the families during this difficult time.”

The discovery came weeks after a Sri Lanka-bound Dali container ship collided with the Key Bridge on March 26, causing the bridge to collapse and killing six workers.

Unified Command said multiple agencies, including the Maryland State Police Underwater Recovery Team and the FBI, assisted in the effort to remove the body from the water.

The fourth body was recovered from the scene on Monday, April 15th.

“As we mourn the lives lost and continue our recovery efforts, we recognize that each missing person is someone’s beloved friend or family member,” Butler said at the time.

On the night of March 26, two workers were rescued from the water, while six others were missing. They were presumed dead and all but one were later recovered.
