Tensions flared between former Miami Heat teammates Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro during a practice session in Las Vegas early Friday morning. Reports suggest that the two NBA players had a heated argument, which culminated in Adebayo allegedly punching Herro in the head. This incident took place as the NBA Summer League recently resumed in Las Vegas.
According to sources, the conflict stemmed from social media comments made by Herro that criticized Adebayo’s defensive skills. The comments emerged after a significant trade that sent Giannis Antetokounmpo to Miami and Herro to Milwaukee, effectively ending their partnership as teammates. Herro was present at Friday’s summer league match between the Bucks and the Heat.
Furthermore, a screenshot circulating online seems to show Herro questioning Adebayo’s defensive capability, addressing it in a direct message to a fan. After the Heat’s 119-86 win, Herro spoke to the Bucks’ summer league players and briefly engaged with former teammate Jaime Jaquez Jr., but he did not bring up the incident with Adebayo.
During an interview with Prime Video after the game, Herro indicated that he felt no hesitation in supporting his former team. He expressed, “In Miami, it’s all about love. I’ve looked at some of the players, the coaching staff, Chris Quinn, Spo… Everyone is doing well in Miami. It’s an opportunity for both parties to reset and make a fresh start.”
Bucks head coach Taylor Jenkins commented on the matter, stating he had “no comment” and was unaware of the details. In June 2024, Adebayo signed a three-year contract extension worth $166 million. Some of the skepticism regarding Adebayo’s performance appears to link to the hefty salary he commands.
Earlier this year, Adebayo made headlines with a remarkable 83-point game against the Washington Wizards, marking the second-highest scoring night in NBA history, just behind Kobe Bryant. Meanwhile, Herro earned recognition as the league’s Sixth Man of the Year in 2022.
The Heat released a statement acknowledging the incident but chose not to comment further, while the Bucks also declined to provide any statement on the situation.
