Obama Blames Trump for Minneapolis Shooting

Former President Barack Obama has placed direct blame on President Trump for the death of Alex Preti in Minneapolis, stating that “this has to stop.” He criticized his successor for “trying to escalate the situation,” marking a rare, explicit condemnation of the current administration.

In a statement shared on X, Obama expressed his sorrow over Preti’s murder, calling it a “heartbreaking tragedy.” He urged all Americans, regardless of political affiliation, to recognize that many core national values are under threat.

He noted that “people across the country are rightly outraged” by the actions of masked ICE recruits and other federal agents, who he claims are using intimidating tactics that endanger city residents.

Obama’s comments come following the shooting of Preti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse who was killed by Border Patrol agents during a protest. Reports indicate that Preti, who was attempting to shield a woman being pepper-sprayed, had a loaded firearm in his possession at the time. The agents then pulled a gun from his waistband and fired about ten shots.

In his statement, Obama acknowledged the challenges faced by immigration officials but accused the Trump administration of fostering a lawless environment for agents. He remarked that the current administration seems to be escalating tensions while providing misleading explanations related to the shootings of both Preti and another individual, Renee Good, which appear to contradict available video evidence.

This statement marks Obama’s first public response to the unrest in Minneapolis that followed the killing of Good by ICE agents earlier this year.
