Barbara Corcoran Throws Unique Birthday Surprise
Barbara Corcoran, star of Shark Tank, had a memorable way to celebrate her 70th birthday. Apparently, when she discovered that her friends were organizing a surprise party for her, she decided to switch things up a bit.
“It was absolutely the best party ever,” she told The Boardroom’s Damian Scott. Corcoran mentioned that a good friend clued her in about the surprise organized by Liz. So, she thought, why not surprise her friends instead?
The 76-year-old shared that her friends were all waiting for her to come home from a trip. Her brother even directed her to enter through the downstairs door. “They walked into the living room and found me in a coffin,” Corcoran recalled. “I had set up the entire room like a funeral home, complete with chairs, a priest, and even a rabbi. Everyone talked about their likes and dislikes regarding me as if I were truly gone.”
There was even a joke about her then 9-year-old daughter asking, “When am I getting paid?” to which Corcoran replied with a laugh, “I felt like I wanted to strangle her!”
“But the best part?” she added. “Everyone was discussing me like I was gone. Who really knows what people will say about them after they pass?”
Corcoran insisted that her friends genuinely thought she had died. “I heard gasps when they realized what was happening,” she recalled. “I had my eyes closed and didn’t move for a full ten minutes. They were truly shocked, and I just lay there. It was incredible.”
Even in the context of her “death,” Corcoran looked fabulous, sporting a striking red Carolina Herrera dress and her makeup was perfectly done. After those tense ten minutes, she jumped up and danced.
The following morning, she learned that news of her faux demise had even made it onto social media. “This really might be my best report card,” she joked.
Corcoran also posted a series of pictures from the party on Instagram, one featuring fellow Shark Tank star Daymond John kissing her forehead while she was in the casket. She humorously captioned it, “Surprise 70th!!” After her friends paid their respects, she burst out of the casket and danced to Diana Ross’s “I’m Alive!” It seems she’s got a flair for the dramatic. “Hey, you only die once, right?” she quipped.
