Naked Woman Tries to Become Mermaid, Charged After Incident
A Louisiana woman was found swimming naked in a neighbor’s pond as she attempted to transform into a “mermaid,” according to local police. The authorities mentioned that a Taser was employed when she didn’t respond to their instructions.
This incident occurred in the Linville community of Marion last November, as detailed in a statement from the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office. Officers were called to the scene following a report of trespassing.
The homeowner reported seeing a neighbor yelling in their driveway and warned the intruder to leave the property.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the woman in the pond on the property. She was identified as Erin Elizabeth Sutton, 41, from Marion.
Sutton, it seems, was adamant about her aquatic aspirations. She initially ignored the deputy’s requests to exit the water, claiming she was trying to become a mermaid. After several attempts, she finally agreed to leave the pond. Given the chilly weather, emergency medical services were called to check on her well-being.
While the officer was providing Sutton with a blanket and guiding her indoors for warmth, she unexpectedly lunged at him. Reports indicate that despite several commands to stop, Sutton resisted. When the deputy deployed the Taser, it evidently had no effect.
Ultimately, police managed to take her to the ground, where she continued to resist and even kicked and punched at the responding officer.
After being restrained, Sutton was taken by paramedics to a local hospital. Authorities noted that she threatened both police officers and paramedics during this time.
Following her medical evaluation, officers obtained a warrant for her arrest from the Third Judicial District Court. Sutton turned herself in to the sheriff’s office a few days later.
She now faces multiple charges, including three felony counts of resisting a police officer with force, two felony counts of public intimidation, and additional counts for assaulting a police officer, disturbing the peace, and trespassing. Her bond has been set at $62,000, and she remains incarcerated.
It’s unclear if Sutton has legal representation at this point.
