Senate Majority Leader John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) said Wednesday that Democrats should stop resisting efforts to confirm President Donald Trump's nominees.
Barrasso said on the Senate floor that he recently promised the 47th president that the Senate would “work around the clock” to confirm the nominee.
Wyoming conservatives said they chose to delay confirmation even though many Senate Democrats praise many of Trump's nominees.
Last night, Democrats decided to postpone John Ratcliffe's confirmation.
Ratcliffe was President Trump's nominee to head the Central Intelligence Agency. His nomination is completely bipartisan. He received a 14-3 vote on the Intelligence Committee.
Last night, Democrats opted for a last-minute obstruction anyway.
What's happening here is shameful. Our world is too dangerous to delay confirmation of Mr. Ratcliffe.
I hope my Democratic colleagues don't have any plans for this weekend. Because the Senate will guarantee that it will vote to confirm President Trump's nominee here in Washington.
“According to a recent Fox News poll, 78% of Americans say Democrats should work with President Trump,” he added.
Barrasso continued:
All but two Democrats joined all Republicans in voting to support President Trump's nominee for Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem. Her vote was 13-2.
Several Democrats also voted to confirm Scott Bessent, President Trump's nominee for Treasury secretary.
I want to remind my colleagues of what the Democratic Party says about President Trump's nominees.
Sen. Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin nominated Sean Duffy to be Secretary of Transportation during a hearing. Senator Baldwin offered this glowing comment. “He is the right person to serve the families, businesses and workers of Wisconsin,” said Sean Duffy.
Colorado Sen. John Hickenlooper nominated Chris Wright to be Energy Secretary during a hearing. Sen. Hickenlooper said: Mr. Wright is “a scientist who has dedicated his life to energy.”
Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly said Lee Zeldin is “the right person” to head the Environmental Protection Agency.
New Mexico Sen. Martin Heinrich said Doug Burgum is a “talented candidate” to lead the Interior Department.
Please note these comments.
Democrats know President Trump's nominee is qualified for the job.
“The Senate should give its advice and consent, and disgruntled Democrats should not use it as an excuse to delay or deny the Senate's constitutional authority,” he concluded in a floor speech. “Americans want results, not resistance.”
