Barry Manilow shares encouraging health news after his recent cancer diagnosis

Barry Manilow recently shared a health update following his cancer diagnosis, and fans are relieved. In a post on Instagram, the 82-year-old musician was seen smiling in a green hospital gown while resting in a hospital bed. He wrote, “Today is better!”

Many fans expressed their happiness in the comments, sending him love and encouragement. One commented, “We love you Barry!! God is good! We can’t wait to see you again soon.” Another fan mentioned, “Barry, I’ve loved you for 50 years. When I heard you were sick, my heart skipped a beat,” adding that they were glad to see him recovering.

Manilow revealed in December that a cancerous spot was discovered on his lung after weeks of bronchitis and subsequent flare-ups. Out of caution, his doctors conducted more tests, which indicated a serious health issue.

He explained, “Even after overcoming bronchitis and getting back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my doctor insisted on an MRI to ensure everything was fine. Thankfully, it detected a spot on my left lung that needed to be removed. It was fortunate, really, that it was caught early.” He also expressed that this was good news overall.

Along with the serious news, he shared his plans, saying that following the conclusion of his “Christmas A Gift of Love” concert, he would undergo surgery. He mentioned that the doctors believe the cancer isn’t spreading, and that he won’t need chemotherapy or radiation—just some soup and reruns of “I Love Lucy.”

Apologizing to his fans who had purchased tickets, he expressed his disappointment about needing to reschedule, saying he was looking forward to the January show just as much as they were.

Manilow, famed for hits like “I Write the Songs” and “Can’t Smile Without You,” reflected on his musical career during an interview, expressing surprise at the success of “Copacabana.” He recalled how it wasn’t initially expected to become a widely played hit.

He shared a memory from when discotheques were popular, reminiscing about how he would encourage DJs to play his songs. People loved to dance to them, which led him to think maybe this could turn into something significant. Ultimately, “Copacabana” became one of his most beloved tracks.
