Barry Morphew to Appear in Court for Wife’s Murder Charges
Barry Morphew is set to make his first court appearance regarding the murder indictment for his wife, Suzanne Morphew. This follows significant developments in the case against him.
Scheduled for Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. local time in Alamosa, Colorado, Morphew was extradited from Arizona on Monday and has been placed in the Alamosa County Jail. The jury formally indicted him on June 20.
His attorney, David Beller, emphasized that Morphew maintains his innocence. He criticized the authorities, stating, “The government is allowing their pre-determined conclusions to lead to a search for evidence. The case has not changed.”
Suzanne Morphew vanished on Mother’s Day in 2020, and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation discovered her remains in 2023 in Sagersh County. The indictment noted that many of her bones were found in a significantly bleached state.
Prosecutors revealed that certain chemicals—Butorphanol, azaperone, and medetomidine—were detected in her bone marrow. These substances are known to be tranquilizers used for deer, often referred to as “Bam.”
Interestingly, Barry Morphew is reported to be the only person with a prescription for these tranquilizers in Colorado, where he has lived. Between his work on a farm transporting deer, the authorities believe he had access to these substances.
This isn’t the first time Barry has faced such accusations; he was initially charged with his wife’s murder in 2021. Yet, those charges were dropped due to prosecutorial misconduct, allowing the possibility for re-indictment.
Documents indicate Suzanne Morphew had intentions to leave her husband, yet she seemed to be waiting for an appropriate time. It’s a tragic and complex situation, and as Barry prepares for his latest court appearance, the ramifications of this case continue to unfold.
