Bill Cottle, known as Barstool Sports’ “Billy Football,” is making waves with a new venture that may surprise some. He’s running for Congress.
But Cottle insists this is not a publicity stunt or a comedic element. Behind his persona that listeners have come to know is a desire to make a difference and contribute to the communities he calls out.
In an interview with the Daily Caller, Cottle said his interest in politics stems from his upbringing as a New Yorker born in the turn of the century. Having grown up immersed in current events, I naturally developed a strong interest in politics, which opened my path to the unconventional world of politics.
“I’m Bill Cottle. I grew up a New Yorker all my life,” Cottle said. “To be honest, my interest in politics started when I was born in 1999. A lot of my childhood was filled with current events and world-changing events; It always made me interested in politics.”
Cottle rose to fame with Pardon My Take, one of America’s most popular sports podcasts.Start as intern “Billy Football” while playing the game Billy, who attended Williams College himself, became a fan favorite for his brotherly sense of humor and goofy antics. He then became the show’s full-time third wheel, and now he works full-time on various projects at Barstool’s New York office.

Mr. Cottle emphasized his belief in his ideas and his sincere intention to make a positive impact. He is dissatisfied with the current state of Congress and sees himself as an agent of change and committed to a brighter future for his constituency.
“I believe my heart is in the right place,” Cottle said. “The situation with the council and the local authority has become something of a money laundering scheme for their benefit. And I truly believe that I am here just to make a difference and build a future for the district. believe.”

In a political climate where outsider support can improve electoral chances, Mr. Cottle is not seeking support. He aims to distance himself from political endorsements and stay focused on the issues most important to New York’s 3rd District. For him, it’s about addressing the issues of his constituents.
Asked about the possibility of pursuing former President Donald Trump’s endorsement, Cottle said, “I want to run a race on issues, not individuals or personalities.” “This is really about the everyday lives of Long Islanders recognizing the impact of bad decisions in Congress and demanding change.”

The same goes for potential support from our Barstool colleagues, including Dave Portnoy, Big Cat, and PFT Commenter. Cottle insists he does not seek their support because he does not want to drag them into the throes of the political realm, saying, “Frankly, it’s unfair to put them in that position.” .
“I’m not asking them for support. The real answer to this question, and I hope you take away from this, is that they’re not political figures.” (Related article: Former CNN anchor John Avlon announces candidacy for Congress)
Mr. Cottle has followed an unusual path into politics. He once had to give a presentation about salamanders as punishment for a failure at Barstool, a moment that became an urban legend among fans of the brand. Now he’s running for the People’s House. But after Kohler asked him what he would say to his past salamander self now, he said that “Billy Football” was no shock to him.

“I don’t think I’d be surprised. I wouldn’t be surprised at all,” Cottle explained. “I’ve always wanted to contribute to the community. I’ve always wanted to serve. But I can serve the public good, and I think if I said, ‘Hey, In about seven years, you’re going to be taking on some really big challenges to help your country, help your community, and help people.”You stay in the district.” I don’t think he would be surprised at all. ”
