The baseball world is remembering Ricky Henderson on Saturday.
Social media was flooded with heartfelt messages for the sports icon, who died at the age of 65.
Henderson's former Yankees teammate, Dave Winfield, expressed his condolences on Instagram.
“I still can't believe we lost my favorite teammate and great friend Rickey Henderson. May he rest in peace,” Winfield wrote.
“We are saddened by the passing of our friend Rickey Henderson, the greatest leadoff hitter in MLB history!” Bob Kendrick, director of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, wrote about. “We were proud to induct him into the Hall of Fame along with Fergie Jenkins, Ozzie Smith, and the late Luis Tiant in 2015. Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and legion of fans!”
Fellow Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs also had kind words for Henderson, MLB's all-time stolen base leader.
“It's a sad day for the Hall of Fame family with the passing of one of the game's greatest players, Rickey Henderson. Rest in Peace, Brother Rickey, who will be greatly missed.” Boggs told X.
Bobby Valentine, who was Henderson's manager with the Mets in 1999 and 2000, posted on social media following the news of Henderson's death.
“It was an honor to wear the same uniform as Rickey Henderson.” Valentine wrote. “He was the most interesting and dynamic player I've ever seen. Rest in peace Ricky U was the best!”
Mike Piazza, who played with Henderson on the same Mets team, had kind words for the legend.
“Ricky Henderson was a dream to bat for as a teammate, but a nightmare as an opposing catcher. He was one of the most generous, hysterical, and compassionate human beings. He will be sorely missed. So sad. Prayers for his soul and family.” Piazza wrote on his X account:.
Ozzie Guillen, who played in the All-Star Game twice with Henderson, I also received kind words..
“Ricky, rest in peace. My condolences to the Henderson family,” Gillen wrote. “One of the best things I've ever done.”
