Battleground states extend polling hours in key precincts

Several battleground states extended polling place hours Tuesday, citing unexpected wait times, technical issues and other issues for voters in key districts.

pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania, polling places across the state are scheduled to close at 8 p.m., but voters in Luzerne County granted an extension and local election officials said residents must vote by 9:30 p.m.

State officials said voters who lined up before 8 p.m. can still vote using their county's regular voting system, while voters who line up after 8 p.m. can still vote with a provisional ballot.

early Tuesday, Announced by the Pennsylvania Department of State. Cambria County extended voting hours by two hours, citing a “software glitch” that temporarily delayed scanning ballots in the precinct.

Voters in Cambria County have until 10 p.m., two hours after the 8 p.m. deadline, to vote, but any votes cast after 8 p.m. must be cast using provisional ballots.

north carolina

In North Carolina, state election officials extended voting hours by 30 minutes in precincts in Burke and Wilson counties. Voters in the state have until 8 p.m. to vote, which is longer than the 7:30 p.m. deadline in other parts of the state.

Georgia also announced an extension for voters in Cobb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties in the Atlanta area.

Two Fulton County polling places were evacuated early Tuesday due to multiple “uncredible” bomb threats, prompting county officials to apply to extend voting hours until 7:30 p.m.
