Beauty Influencer Valeria Márquez Reportedly Killed While Streaming Live

Investigation Launched Following Death of Beauty Influencer Valeria Marquez

Reports indicate that Mexican authorities are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of beauty influencer Valeria Marquez, who was streaming live on TikTok when she was attacked on Monday. Marquez was just 23 years old.

As stated by the Jalisco Attorney General’s office, Marquez was at a salon in the Colonia Real del Carmen area of Zapopan while surrounded by stuffed animals during her stream, according to Rolling Stone.

During the broadcast, a voice from off-camera called out her name. The footage shows Marquez reacting by leaning forward, lowering the volume, and turning to face the individual who had entered.

According to reports, Marquez confirmed her name to the man before he opened fire, hitting her in the head and chest. The video continued recording after she was fatally wounded and only stopped when someone picked up her phone; this person remains unidentified.

Interestingly, Marquez had mentioned that individuals had previously come to the salon bringing expensive gifts.

Law enforcement arrived at the scene around 6:30 PM local time, confirming the death of the well-known influencer. The state prosecutors have yet to reveal the identity of the suspect.

The Jalisco authorities are treating this case as a femicide, which is the murder of a woman due to her gender, according to the victim’s parents. This case sheds light on the troubling levels of gender-based violence currently prevalent in Mexico.
