The 18-year-old beauty contest queen who overcomes childhood struggles of homelessness and abusive mothers was killed in a car accident with a Florida tractor trailer.

Kadance Fredericksen, former Miss Okaloosa County Teen USA title winner, was driving on Highway 4 when he collided head-on with a tractor trailer on Highway 4 on Monday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and the tractor-trailer driver with minor injuries was not arrested.

Fredericksen, of Baker, Florida, recently received a $40,000 university scholarship, which was announced in a final Instagram post on February 7th.

“We are extremely grateful to be selected as a recipient of this year's Ellison McCranny Ingram Foundation Scholarship,” she writes. “This generous support will help me shape my future and take me a step closer to achieving my dreams. I would like to thank the Ingram family, the foundation, and everyone involved in this incredible honor!”

Fredericksen was a charitable initiative that collected 12,000 teddy bears and blankets, and later established a charitable initiative distributed to children suffering from abuse and trauma.

As a child, Fredericksen struggled with homelessness, hunger and abuse before her father and stepmother (who later adopted her). She said she was abused and ignored by her biological mother and stepfather, including being groomed by her stepfather.

“In many dark times in my childhood, the only thing I could call myself was the single teddy bear I received as a gift,” she said on Kada's promise website. I wrote it in. “I took him from house to house, from sofa to sofa, and held him tightly in the most frightening times. It is from these memories that Kada's promises were born.”

In addition to winning her hometown beauty pageant title, Fredericksen won Miss Miss Florida in 2017, representing the county in the Miss Florida Teen America pageant last year .

Fredericksen was a senior at Baker School and hoped to graduate in the coming months before a tragic accident cut her life.

“We are grieving the tragic loss of Cadance, an exceptional young woman. “Our hearts are for her family, friends, and everyone who knows and loves her. We're going. We express deep sadness to our students, staff, faculty and the whole bakery when we gather at this incredibly difficult time.”
