Bed bugs found at four Las Vegas hotels in four months

What happens in Las Vegas doesn’t necessarily stay in Las Vegas.

Bed bug infestations have been found at a string of resort hotels along the Strip over the past four months and are an ongoing problem for Sin City.

Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) inspectors found the pests at the Encore, Venetian, Mirage and Excalibur Hotels and Casinos. 8 News Now reportedhe said, citing health records.

All popular attractions are within 4 miles.

The most recent reported incident occurred in December, when one of Encore’s bed bug detection dogs found live bed bugs in the guest’s room who had complained. The room was immediately banned.

Complaints from guests at three other locations in September and October led directly to the discovery of small parasites in hotel rooms.

It’s not clear how the bed bugs got into the resort or if the discovery is related.

The Nevada Resort Association told local media that only four of the four hotels were affected by the outbreak, calling it an “extremely rare and isolated event.”

On behalf of all hotels on the Strip, the NRA said, “The insignificant number of incidents reflects the comprehensive and aggressive health and safety measures and pest control procedures that Las Vegas resorts have in place to prevent and address the problem.” It reflects that.”

“Unfortunately, these pests can be unknowingly carried anywhere on luggage or clothing. Although very rare, when reported, our members are at risk for their health and safety. We will take immediate action in accordance with safety requirements.”

However, from 2022 to 2023, bed bugs were also found at seven other popular hotels along the Las Vegas Strip.

SNHD inspectors found bugs at Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood, Circus Circus, Palazzo, Tropicana, MGM Grand, and Sahara. USA Today Reported in August.

Although this parasite is not known to spread disease, it can suck the blood of people or animals during sleep, causing itching and excessive scratching, which can lead to secondary skin infections. Sexuality increases.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, bed bugs can survive for months without feeding on blood, making it easy for the pests to hide in luggage, clothing and furniture.

“Although bed bugs have been found in five-star hotels and resorts, their presence is not determined by the cleanliness of the living environment where they are found.” says the CDC.

Officials advise guests to pull back the sheets and inspect their hotel beds before going to bed at night to avoid falling prey to bed bugs.
