During Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX Halftime Show performance, the surprises were not just a secret from the audience, but also from the celebrities present on stage.
Hospitality entrepreneur David Grutman shared his experience of attending this memorable event at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, during a phone interview. “The vibe was great,” he remarked.
“I’ve done a lot of amazing things in my life, but this was probably the best. It was just insane. The energy was incredible,” he emphasized.
As Bad Bunny performed “Yo Pereo Sola,” Grutman was spotted dancing alongside stars like Jessica Alba, Karol G, Pedro Pascal, Cardi B, and Alix Earle.
Grutman, who co-owns Gekko restaurant with Bad Bunny, reminisced about many significant moments they’ve shared, including the news of Bad Bunny headlining the halftime show.
“He thought it was important for me to be in the mansion,” Grutman noted. “He was really kind.” He also touched on Earle’s attendance, calling her “the face of Gen Z,” which makes sense given the show’s inclusive vibe.
Grutman is currently producing Earle’s upcoming reality show for Netflix, as noted in recent reports.
Reflecting on the performance atmosphere, Grutman described Cardi’s excitement, saying, “She was so happy. I mean, she’s amazing. What a great scene.” The group was asked to wear a specific color palette but had the freedom to choose their own outfits otherwise—a detail Grutman remembered fondly.
Everyone involved was kept in the dark about various surprises, which included unexpected performances and even a wedding. “I didn’t know anything about all of that. He kept it all a secret,” he revealed, admitting that there were no rehearsals prior to the show.
Grutman emphasized that Bad Bunny was fully in charge of the performance, which celebrated his Puerto Rican ancestry. “That’s his voice,” he stated. It was also a historic moment as it marked the first time in halftime show history that an artist performed an entire set in Spanish.
Grutman met Bad Bunny’s parents at the event and saw their pride clearly. “I can only imagine what they were thinking, seeing their son come this far,” he said, recognizing the odds of such success.
In reflecting on what fuels Bad Bunny’s confidence despite facing criticism, Grutman expressed, “He has a lot of confidence that he can do it. Spending time with him, you realize he’s truly a special person.”
