House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) said Thursday on Newsmax TV’s “The Record” that the foreign aid bill is necessary because of the “biblical commandment to stand with Israel.”
Host Greta Van Susteren asked, “Can you assure the American people that the money sent to Gaza will actually be used for humanitarian aid?” Who is monitoring it? ”
Mr. Johnson said: “Well, so do we, so do our agencies, and so does Congress itself. We have oversight responsibility for that. We request that you report on the provision.”
He continued: “These are really, really important things. This is a priceless treasure of the American people. Israel is an important ally of ours, and I think most people understand the need for this funding. They are fighting for their very existence. They are the only stable democracy in the Middle East. Of course, this is a biblical command for us as believers to stand with Israel. . We will, and they will win.”
Prime Minister Johnson added: “This is an important, very important symbolic gesture and a very important replenishment of stockpiles, for example Iron Dome.” They shot down all the missiles because we supported them. I think the American people understand the importance of that, but as you say, we have to be accountable for it. ”
