Bella Hadid Opens Up About Her Ongoing Struggle with Lyme Disease
Bella Hadid has shared her experiences with Lyme disease, shedding light on her continuing battle with the condition. In a series of Instagram reshares, she posted a quote that reads, “When your chronic illness is a chronic illness and someone says, ‘It’s always about you,’…well…one might say that the illness is…chronic.”
She also highlighted an influencer’s post titled “The Duality of Life with Chronic Illness.” Hadid emphasized, “Medical anxiety is real,” while tagging the original poster.
In another post, she expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you for summarizing all my thoughts and daily situations in one swipe. It’s true!”
Hadid, who seemed to be struggling with heavy angel wings at last month’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2013. Recently, she shared an unexpected photo from her hospital bed, showcasing her ongoing fight against the illness.
The image depicted her connected to an IV, visibly in pain while covering her mouth and forehead with plastic wrap. Hadid also posted a playful snap of herself in a Pikachu costume, along with a picture of her having a late pizza dinner in the hospital.
Another snapshot captured her in an elevator corner, holding a drink, with the caption, “Sorry for being MIA all the time, I love you all.” Her mother, Yolanda, affectionately commented, “❤️ Lyme warrior,” while sister Gigi added, “I love you! I hope you feel as strong and good as you deserve soon!!!!!”
Yolanda shared another heartfelt photo, depicting a moment when she comforted Bella while she was receiving IV treatment. In her own post, Yolanda expressed distress over watching her daughter struggle, remarking how chronic neurogenic Lyme disease is not easy for anyone to fully understand.
With sincere reflections, Yolanda mentioned, “The invisible disability of chronic neurogenic Lyme disease is difficult for anyone to explain or understand. But my own pain is nothing compared to watching my baby suffer.”
She praised Bella for her courage throughout this health challenge, noting that her daughter is a “survivor” who keeps fighting for better days despite various setbacks. Interestingly, Yolanda suffers from Lyme disease as well, a fact that Bella and Anwar Hadid addressed during a poignant speech in 2015 at the Global Lyme Alliance Gala, where they declared their commitment to not letting pain determine their lives.
