Country music icon Dolly Parton passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80, leaving an incredible legacy that spanned over six decades.

Her family confirmed her death earlier that day.

Parton’s team released a heartfelt statement, noting that “a rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family.”

They also emphasized that “Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience.”

“She inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact,” the statement concluded.

In a tribute, President Donald Trump ordered flags to be lowered for a week, sharing on Truth Social, “This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will.”

He added, “In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00 PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you.”

Born in rural Tennessee, Parton grew up as one of 12 children and eventually became a towering figure in country music. Her career, which lasted over sixty years, included several iconic hits like “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” and “I Will Always Love You.”

Parton thrived in the spotlight, becoming the best-selling female country artist of all time.

Her talents were not limited to music; she also enjoyed a successful acting career with notable roles in films such as “9 to 5” and “Steel Magnolias.” Moreover, she built an entertainment empire that included Dollywood among other ventures.

Parton faced profound personal loss when her husband of nearly sixty years, Carl Dean, passed away in March 2025. Just before her death, she mentioned that she was still healing and continuing to work in spite of health challenges.
