Beloved nurse of 12 years dies suddenly on Christmas Eve: ‘Epitome of kindness’

A nurse who spent 12 years at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital died suddenly on Christmas Eve after suffering “some sort of seizure.”

Ashley Denes, 34, was in the Whitsundays and had spent the morning crabbing when she collapsed and died.

On the way, she had another seizure and was rushed to hospital, where paramedics tried to revive her for 45 minutes but were unable to revive her.

“Ash was not only a cherished daughter, beloved sister and sister-in-law, a loving lifelong partner, a delightful aunt, a trusted friend, and a wonderful nurse and colleague. “She was also a loving mother to her fur babies. She embodied everything you needed and wanted in a person,” the GoFundMe said.

“She made everything so effortless and made you feel like you were at home. Ash lit up every room. She had such a presence. The aura she gave off. You know that is the epitome of kindness.”

Ashley was described as someone who could make a huge difference in people's lives, even if they had only known each other for five minutes.

She worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at RPA for 12 years and recently joined the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Transport Service.

Her work gained attention, with many people donating money to her GoFundMe and talking about their experiences with Ashley.

Another said: “We are so sad to lose Ashley. Her energy, warmth and dedication to her work left a lasting impression on NETS. She will be greatly missed by all of us. Our deepest condolences go out to her family and loved ones.”
