Ben Affleck Clears Up Naked Scene Rumors from “Gone Girl”
Ben Affleck has finally set the record straight after endless speculation regarding a particular scene in his films. At 54 years old, he confirmed that he was completely nude during a shower scene in the 2014 psychological thriller “Gone Girl.”
The film, directed by David Fincher and based on Gillian Flynn’s popular novel, features Affleck as the character Nick Dunne, who takes center stage in the narrative, especially when his wife, Amy, played by Rosamund Pike, suddenly disappears.
“I wore no prosthesis,” Affleck mentioned during an interview with Variety. In a bit of humor, he added that he had only used a prosthetic in one other film, specifically “Hollywoodland,” for his nose.
Reflecting back on the scene, Affleck recalled how Fincher assured him that nothing explicit would be shown to viewers. “David assured me — because trust is essential with directors and actors — ‘Listen, if we tilt down, we’ll never go far enough to see anything,'” he recounted while accepting an award at the Hollywood Film Awards in 2014.
The actor also joked about the circumstances of the scene, noting, “I’d like to thank you for keeping the set cool … If you’re gonna have one chance for America to see your junk, you want it to be cold.” It’s interesting how, after all these years, he still reflects fondly on the experience, emphasizing his trust in Fincher. “I was willing to do anything for [Fincher], like, be naked,” he told Letterboxd.
In 2014, during an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Affleck’s ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, playfully addressed the situation. “What I have to say is, ‘You’re welcome,'” she quipped, suggesting her role in amplifying the buzz surrounding the scene. Her lighthearted comments about giving back, humorously linked to the filming, certainly added an extra layer to the whole narrative.
