Former NFL running back Ben Gay, who played one season with the Cleveland Browns, died in a car accident in Colorado late last month. He was 44 years old.
Gay died in an accident on July 29th. To NilfinoThe Associated Press, the Akron Beacon Journal and the Houston Chronicle all reported Gay’s death.

“Rest in peace former Springs legend Ben Gay!! Haven’t seen him since high school but we were in middle and high school together,” one Facebook user wrote about the former football player. “Memories from high school! Ben was a beast in the 90’s. He’s done with it… he left everyone behind!”
Gay was a standout running back at Garden City Community College in Kansas after being cut from the Baylor University program for violating team rules.
He appeared in a preseason game for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League before the Browns gave him an opportunity.

He played in all 16 games for Cleveland during the 2001 season as the Browns finished 7-9 and third in the AFC North. He rushed 51 times for 172 yards and one touchdown.
Cleveland released Gay the following offseason. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts but was not included on the 53-man roster. Beacon Journal.
