Ben Stiller Reacts to Knicks’ Acquisition of Jose Alvarado
Ben Stiller expressed his enthusiasm regarding the Knicks’ recent trade for Jose Alvarado. On Thursday afternoon, he responded to an initial report by ESPN insider Shams Charania with a simple, “Let’s go.” When questioned about the possibility of former Knicks RJ Barrett or Immanuel Quickley returning to the squad, Stiller shared his affection for both players.
“I will always love both those guys. RJ is my player—I truly enjoy watching him succeed. And Quick? Well, if the timing is right, yes. But for now, things seem to be falling into place for both teams,” he commented.
After a bit, he added that he was “waiting with open arms” in response to a lighthearted post by NBA insider Jake Fischer about Alvarado diving for a loose ball and sliding into Stiller while he was sitting courtside.
Stiller has been an active voice for the Knicks on social media, particularly on X, since 2020, often sharing updates and thoughts on the team’s journey. His profile photo even features Jalen Brunson with the NBA Cup trophy the team won last December.
As the trade deadline approached, the Knicks made a key move by acquiring Alvarado from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Darren Terry and two second-round picks. In his fifth season, Alvarado is averaging 7.9 points, 3.1 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game with a shooting percentage of 41.8.
By bringing in the Brooklyn native, the Knicks have bolstered their lineup, especially following Miles McBride’s recent injury diagnosis of a sports hernia, which is set to require immediate surgery. This injury puts McBride’s postseason participation in doubt, as he is averaging a career-best 12.9 points per game this season—a significant loss for the team.
The trade for Alvarado was a bit of a process. Initially, the Knicks acquired Terry from the Chicago Bulls, parting ways with Gershon Yabusele. Subsequently, they traded Terry to New Orleans to facilitate the deal with Alvarado.
Currently, the Knicks are performing exceptionally well, positioned in second place in the Eastern Conference—five games behind the Detroit Pistons. With an impressive streak of eight consecutive wins since January 21st, adding Alvarado to the mix could reinforce their momentum, especially if McBride returns to the lineup.
And through it all, I think Stiller will remain a passionate supporter of the team.
