Watson and Acho Speak Out Against Kirk
Former NFL players Benjamin Watson and Emmanuel Acho are publicly criticizing Charlie Kirk following a violent incident. Watson expressed in a Facebook post, “Hearing about the murder of Charlie Kirk was heartbreaking. I never followed him, but I could see the influence he had.”
He added that verbal attacks on Kirk and, by extension, on the accomplishments of Black men and women are something he cannot forgive. Watson referred to Kirk’s rhetoric as violence, arguing that it perpetuates stereotypes and encourages divisiveness among people.
Watson called the occurrence of Kirk’s murder “an evil, merciless act.” Yet, he remains vocal against Kirk, joining others in denouncing the founder of Turning Point USA.
Meanwhile, contributor TJ Moe, also a former NFL player, noted his disdain for Watson’s actions. He mentioned past grievances against Watson’s influence and questioned his understanding of biblical teachings regarding hate.
Watson is not alone; other ex-NFL players are similarly voicing their criticisms. “Kirk’s death has prompted uncomfortable conversations. What do you hope your minority friends think about the celebration of his life, especially when they’ve expressed their views publicly?” Acho remarked.
In a video, Acho referenced a moment where Kirk allegedly referred to another figure using a term deemed offensive. However, Acho seems to have misinterpreted Kirk’s intent, implying that Kirk is reducing people to stereotypes without recognizing the fuller context, according to some observers.
Others in the conversation, like Jason Whitlock, urged for a more thorough engagement in these discussions, emphasizing the importance of context.
