A University of California, Berkeley professor apologized this week after facing backlash for telling students it was easier to date outside the Bay Area.
According to the Daily California, Berkeley’s student newspaper, computer science professor Jonathan Shewchuk told a student who asked about jobs and dating in the Bay Area on EdStem’s online discussion platform, “If you want a girlfriend, start in the Bay Area.” Get out,” he said.
He continued, “It’s better that way almost anywhere else on Earth. It’s not a joke at all. It’s obvious how women behave in places where there are a lot of women and within firing range of the Sun.” You’ll be shocked at the difference between Jose and San Francisco. ”
In a statement to the Daily California, a school spokesperson said the comments were “hurtful and threatening to students, especially women.”
