Morning Update

Good morning and happy Monday! A big shoutout to my colleagues who snagged the Edward R. Murrow Award for their insightful research.

This morning, stock futures are showing a mixed picture, particularly for the S&P 500, which is enjoying a bit of a winning streak, having won three games in a row.

Here are five key takeaways for investors to kick off their trading day.

1. Alphabet

So, Berkshire Hathaway recently added $17 billion in shares of Alphabet, which is Google’s parent company. Now, it’s the third-largest holding in their portfolio, based on a regulatory filing that came out last Friday. There were a few other noteworthy updates in that filing, too.

2. Meta Developments

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, will be back in court soon, following a lost case in New Mexico just over a week ago. Tomorrow marks the start of a lawsuit against Meta, jointly led by California Attorney General Rob Bonta. This lawsuit involves 29 state attorneys general who claim the social media giant has violated several laws.

Raul Torres, the Attorney General of New Mexico, hinted that the outcome could be significant—something like a wake-up call. Some industry experts are drawing parallels to the historical “Big Tobacco” moment, suggesting legal setbacks in California could be particularly damaging for Meta.

3. Fast Cars

Lamborghini recently unveiled the limited edition hybrid version of the V12 Revuelto, which CNBC’s Robert Frank describes as the company’s most powerful production vehicle to date. Only 1,963 units will be made, with a starting price at $741,172. Alessandro Farmeschi, the director of the Revuelto product line, mentioned that this model promises exceptional performance. Meanwhile, Rivian aims to regain its standing against Tesla, implementing special safety features alongside their hands-free tech.

4. Television Trends

This moment is crucial for the TV industry, which has undergone significant changes due to recent mergers and acquisitions. CNBC’s Alex Sherman and Lillian Rizzo explored insights from industry insiders about what to expect in the television landscape, following an updated survey they conducted this year. Their previous findings had surprisingly accurate predictions.

5. Champagne Dilemmas

Champagne producers are finding themselves in a bit of a bind. The summer heat in Europe has caused the grape harvest season to start early. This accelerated timeline means higher sugar content in the grapes, which poses challenges for achieving the desired flavor profiles in sparkling wines.

Beyond the weather, European winemakers are also grappling with decreased demand, soaring costs, and the repercussions of U.S. tariffs.
