Bernardo Silva shares an emotional tribute at Diogo Jota’s funeral

Tributes Pour in Following Diogo Jota’s Tragic Death

Bernardo Silva, a teammate of Diogo Jota and fellow Manchester City star, expressed his deep sorrow over Jota’s untimely passing, calling it a “very sad moment for us all.” In a heartfelt interview prior to an emotional funeral in Portugal, he stated, “He will remain forever.”

Silva fondly reflected on their time together, sharing that they often ate and trained alongside each other, despite playing for rival teams. This was reported while quoting his interview with a Portuguese network.

Jota, along with his younger brother, Andre Silva, tragically died in a car accident early Thursday morning when their Lamborghini suffered a tire blowout, leading to a crash and subsequent fire.

This devastating incident occurred just 11 days after Jota married his long-term partner, the mother of his three children.

“You can’t even begin to fathom the pain of a family—such a loss is unimaginable,” Bernardo shared in an interview. He emphasized that, while Jota’s career was significant, what mattered more was the impact he had on people’s hearts. “His passion, will, and determination allowed him to achieve great things. Jota will always remain in our hearts,” he noted.

Silva described the profound sadness, stating, “We spent so much time together, so this is a particularly hard moment for all of us. The joyful memories we created together will stay with us, and he lives on in all our victories.”

This week, Silva has been among those honoring Jota, sharing touching memories and sentiments from within the football community.

He attended the funeral on Saturday at Igleja Matris Church in Gondomal, Portugal, where emotions ran high as mourners carried Jota’s coffin. Silva unfortunately had to miss Jota’s wedding in late June due to his commitments with Manchester City, although Jota had attended the event.

Reflecting on their bond, Silva remarked, “Number 20 was already special, and it’s even more so now. We’ve been rivals and teammates for years, and he became a great friend. This is a family we will always cherish.”

Silva and Jota celebrated a victory together when Portugal won the Nations League title just last month, making this loss all the more poignant.
