Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) harshly criticized the Pentagon's budget, admitting on social media that “Elon Musk was right” following a failed audit, before the newly formed Gov. He seems to support the Department of Efficiency (DOGE).
President-elect Trump has appointed Musk and former Republican presidential primary candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to lead DOGE in an effort to stop wasteful government spending.
Sanders addressed wasteful spending in a post about X on Sunday.
“Elon Musk is right,” he wrote. “The Department of Defense, with an $886 billion budget, has failed seven consecutive audits, losing billions of dollars in funding. Only 13 senators voted against the 'must change'. “

Musk responded to Sanders' post with two American flags.
Sanders did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
The post comes as Musk continues to criticize government spending on social media.
For example, he shared a post from DOGE's X account about a California high-speed rail project that was projected to cost $33 billion in 2008, but is now projected to cost between $88.5 billion and $127.9 billion. are. In a repost, Musk wrote, “The government needs to stop wasting your hard-earned money!”
Another post shared by Musk shows him speaking in front of an American flag.
“The interest on the national debt we owe is now higher than the defense budget. It's over $1 trillion and growing. This country will go bankrupt,” he said. “That’s why we need the words DOGE, Department of Government Efficiency, on the brass nameplate above our desks.”
Even last week, Musk said that a large percentage of the population doesn't even know there is such a thing as national debt.
