Bernie Sanders backs DOGE, says ‘Elon Musk is right’

Former Democratic-turned-independent Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont has publicly supported the incoming administration's new agency, the Department of Government Efficiency, aimed at cutting down bloated bureaucracies.

President-elect Donald Trump has announced that tech mogul Elon Musk will take the helm of the department, along with former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. The department received predictable praise from conservatives, but Sanders also voiced support for DOGE.

“Republican politicians have long dreamed of a DOGE goal.”

Sanders: “Elon Musk is right” said “The Department of Defense, which has an $886 billion budget, has failed seven consecutive audits, losing billions in funding,” X wrote in a Sunday post.

“Last year, only 13 senators voted against the military-industrial complex and a defense budget full of waste and fraud,” Sanders continued. “That has to change.”

On November 12, just a week after his landslide victory, President Trump announced that Musk and Ramaswamy would lead the department.

President Trump: “Together, these two great Americans will lead the way for my administration to dismantle government bureaucracy, reduce overregulation, reduce wasteful spending, and rebuild our federal agencies.'' This is essential to the 'Save America' movement.” said said in a statement on November 12.

“This could potentially become a modern-day 'Manhattan Project,'” Trump continued. “Republican politicians have been dreaming of the 'DOGE' goal for a very long time. To drive these kinds of fundamental changes, the Department of Government Efficiency is providing advice and guidance from outside the government, and White House He will work with the House and the Office of the President to take on management and budgetary responsibilities to drive major structural reforms and create an unprecedented entrepreneurial approach to government. ”

President Trump also detailed that the department would only last until July 4, 2026, the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
