Bernie Sanders labels Trump as 'crazy' while offering praise on 'Daily Show'

Bernie Sanders Discusses Trump on “The Daily Show”

In a recent appearance on “The Daily Show,” Senator Bernie Sanders, a Democrat from Vermont, didn’t exactly shower President Donald Trump with compliments, yet he seemed to suggest he might have a better grasp of the current American landscape than some in his party. “He may be crazy, he may be a pathological liar, but he’s not stupid,” Sanders remarked to host Jon Stewart.

Stewart humorously labeled Sanders’ comment as “passive-aggressive,” to which Sanders replied that, while Trump has pointed out that “the system is broken,” he has only exacerbated the problem.

Calls for Accountability Amid Community Grief

Sanders stated plainly, “The truth is, the system is broken. It’s making things worse,” and added that Democrats need to acknowledge this reality too.

Jon Stewart commended Sanders for his consistent message, declaring that Trump represents the “true heir to the Sanders revolution,” even humorously dubbing him “the most socialist president” of our time. Stewart credited Sanders with the idea of involving government in certain corporate activities, like the Trump Rx initiative, where the government engaged in the pharmaceutical business.

Concerns Over Political Stalemate

Stewart then posed a probing question to Sanders: “Are you frustrated that the Democratic Party is what you’ve fought for all your career, and you’re running away in fear?”

In response, Sanders acknowledged the truth in Stewart’s statement. He argued that Democrats must recognize the harsh realities, indicating that the medical system is essentially in shambles.

He elaborated further on what needs fixing, insisting that the current political campaign system is flawed. “Citizens United must be eliminated,” he stressed, noting the need for public financing of elections to ensure broad participation in democracy.
