Beth Moore opens up about childhood troubles

In the book and in interviews, Beth Moore details her past, mentioning difficult and frightening situations in her life, including being sexually abused by her father as a child.

“There is nothing that has a greater impact on a child’s life than when a parent becomes the perpetrator.” Beth said. “So my father was the most untrustworthy person on the planet to me.”

Beth added that her father told her to keep quiet for the safety of her family, including her mother, so that no one would know about the ongoing abuse.

“He kept saying that we had to protect my mother because her condition was unstable,” she said. “So he took advantage of that. So he was like, ‘Not only am I going to break up my whole family, I’m going to make my mother commit suicide.’

Marital quarrels and church disputes

Beth Moore also addressed past hardships she faced during their 45-year marriage related to her husband’s battle with mental illness.

“Keith had very severe PTSD and then bipolar disorder, and you never knew when he was going to have a sudden attack,” she said.

Through all the unexpected trials and difficult days of her marriage, the prominent Christian leader says it has made her rely on the Lord even more.

“I think the best thing that came out of this story, for me and for us, was that you talked about a woman surrendering to Jesus,” she said.

In his book, Moore shunned and turned away by the church after she made remarks about former President Donald Trump while running for the White House. She writes that the church sent her Bible studies back, and other churches even burned her Bible studies in response.

Beth’s story is one of love, forgiveness, and perseverance through some truly devastating circumstances. Despite all the heartache, hurt, and betrayal, Beth remains fully committed to the Lord Jesus Christ.
