Bethenny Frankel has revealed that she has been diagnosed with stage 2 chronic kidney disease.
In a recent TikTok video, she shared, “There’s a medical announcement.” She explained that a few months back, she opted to undergo several blood tests. “Each time, my kidneys were failing,” she noted.
Earlier in the day of her announcement, the 55-year-old reality star had visited a doctor who confirmed her diagnosis.
Reflecting on her health, Frankel mentioned that her symptoms could stem from a traumatic experience from years ago when she nearly died due to an allergic reaction. Alternatively, it might be related to an autoimmune condition. She also alluded to previous urinary tract infections, which seemed to have lessened in frequency.
As for her hydration habits, she admitted, “I don’t drink much water. I have a bottle, but I don’t usually drink from it.” Her doctor emphasized the importance of hydration, advising her to consume up to 1.5 gallons each day.
Additionally, Frankel was instructed to refrain from using painkillers like ibuprofen or Advil and to avoid supplements such as turmeric.
While discussing her diagnosis, she expressed that it may be linked to her past health struggles and acknowledged the potential for it to be an autoimmune issue.
Importantly, Frankel made it clear that her intention in sharing her journey wasn’t to instill fear in her fans but to encourage them to prioritize their health. “Please be careful,” she urged her audience. “Perhaps this is something I’ll have to deal with long-term, but I wanted to highlight the necessity of regular blood tests.”
Frankel has a history of being open on social media, previously sharing her experiences, such as battling a bacterial infection after a New Year’s celebration in St. Barts.
In a vulnerable moment on camera, she displayed a rash around her eyes, attributing it to germs on towels, noting even well-washed towels can harbor bacteria.
