Bethenny Frankel is really reflecting on co-parenting these days.
The former “Real Housewives of New York City” star opened up about her relationship with ex-husband Jason Hoppy and their 16-year-old daughter, Bryn Hoppy.
On a recent podcast, Frankel shared, “I want my relationship with my daughter to work out because we’re doing really well, especially during the holidays.” There’s a lot tied up in their family dynamic right now, she noted.
Jason mentioned there’s quite a bit of personal stuff happening in Bryn’s family relationships at the moment.
Frankel expressed her desire for her teens to feel “more connected to the community.” She said, “I want a unit, I want a family. I want to be part of a team.” Her belief in the importance of connection is clear, and she wants to engage with her audience and share as much laughter as possible.
Frankel, who is 55, and Hoppy, 54, tied the knot in 2010 but separated two years later. Their breakup was filled with tension, particularly during the custody battle over Bryn.
They reached a custody agreement in 2014, but their divorce wasn’t finalized until 2021. A judge ruled at the time that Frankel wouldn’t have to pay child support since Bryn primarily lived with Jason.
Jason reassured, “We share joint custody, so I’m not going to spend the rest of Bryn’s childhood fighting. Bryn knows I love her.” He emphasized the importance of making time together meaningful.
Last year, Frankel and Bryn moved to Florida. Sources revealed the move was primarily to support Bryn and align with her academic and athletic goals.
In a heartfelt video, Frankel explained that the relocation served “personal and professional reasons,” highlighting a pivotal turn for both her and Bryn. She described this move as “the healthiest life choice” for their family.
That same year, Frankel spoke candidly about the hardships during her lengthy divorce. She described it as an extremely traumatic period, stating, “It was a 10-year event in my life… I literally thought, ‘I’ll never be happy again.'” This struggle reportedly made her realize the importance of staying strong for Bryn.
In 2017, Jason faced legal troubles after allegedly sending Frankel abusive messages and making threats at Bryn’s school. He denied any wrongdoing amidst serious charges.
Despite their tumultuous past, Frankel emphasizes her effort to speak positively about Jason around Bryn. She mentioned, “Just because you don’t say it in front of your child doesn’t mean they aren’t feeling it.” She believes children intuitively pick up on unspoken sentiments.
