Unbelievable Score in College Basketball Opener
Cal State Northridge kicked off the 2025-26 women’s college basketball season with an astonishing 72-0 victory against Bethesda on Tuesday night. This score is one of the most one-sided outcomes we’ve seen in a while.
In what can only be described as a challenging debut at Premier America Credit Union Arena, the Matadors obliterated the Flames in a staggering 103-13 landslide. CSUN was up 52-0 by halftime and didn’t let Bethesda score until 4:22 into the third quarter.
It was Shan’ann Moreo from Bethesda who finally broke through with a deep 3-pointer, earning some applause even from the home crowd. It almost felt like a relief, if I’m being honest.
Social media quickly picked up on the one-sided event, with many questioning the rationale behind such a matchup. Bethesda, a small private Christian college situated in Anaheim, California, has a student body of just under 400. On top of that, they were severely depleted, with most of their team sidelined due to the flu.
The Flames were coming off a brutal 92-23 defeat against San Diego the night before, navigating that game with only four players for a significant chunk of time. Each of Bethesda’s five active players had to battle through the full 40 minutes on the court during this matchup.
Lead by first-year coach Jamie Newman, who is actually the father of Julian Newman, a notable former high school basketball player now on the men’s team, Bethesda faced an uphill battle. The stat line was rough: the Flames managed just four field goals, hitting only 9 percent of their shots.
Pointing back to CSUN’s offensive prowess, they forced 21 turnovers and really dominated the boards, contributing to a remarkable 79-17 scoring advantage in just field goals. This victory marked the largest margin in the program’s history, which is something you don’t see every day.
