Beto O’Rourke criticizes Biden for ‘letting this country down’ by running for reelection.

O’Rourke Critiques Biden’s Re-election Bid

Former Congressman Beto O’Rourke shared his thoughts on the Pod Save America podcast, asserting that ex-President Joe Biden has “failed this country” in his pursuit of a second term.

O’Rourke believes Biden shouldn’t run again, criticizing him for trying to convince the public that he is the only viable candidate to defeat Trump. “It’s about more than just us; our kids and grandkids might bear the consequences,” he noted, expressing concern that the nation could lose its standing as the best country in the world.

O’Rourke Open to Senate Run

The former representative and 2022 Texas gubernatorial candidate also underscored that Biden’s re-election strategy might stifle the party’s potential by bypassing the opportunity for an open primary. He suggested that bringing forth a variety of candidates could showcase diverse ideas and visions for the future.

“There’s a desire for change among Americans, especially if something new unfolds in 2024,” he said.

Concerns Over Biden’s Cognitive Abilities

O’Rourke highlighted the voices in Congress claiming that Biden appeared to be less mentally sharp during his presidency. He reflected on this, stating, “What I observe with my own eyes cannot be dismissed,” emphasizing that minimizing Biden’s struggles affects the credibility of the Democratic Party.

In a speech earlier this year at Harvard’s Kennedy School, O’Rourke reiterated his doubts about Biden’s candidacy, remarking that enthusiasm among Democrats was lacking. “It’s clear that many voters aren’t thrilled with Biden; I’m just being honest about that,” he added, suggesting the need for revitalizing interest ahead of the 2024 elections.

O’Rourke Calls for Bold Strategies

He questioned whether younger voters would turn out for Biden, Trump, or any other candidates, suggesting that the party needs to inspire them by revamping its messaging for 2024. “Now is the time for something bold; we need to echo what resonated with voters back in 2020,” O’Rourke concluded.
