Former Congressman Beto O’Rourke’s Promise for Immigration Reform
During a rally in Fort Worth titled “The People vs. The Power Grab,” Beto O’Rourke emphasized Democrats’ commitment to comprehensive immigration reform. He reflected on how the party failed to meet expectations after seizing power in 2008 and 2020, when they controlled the White House, House, and Senate.
O’Rourke noted, “Democrats have been talking a good game about immigration, saying, ‘If you elect us, we’ll deliver comprehensive immigration reform.’ We had those opportunities in 2008 and again in 2020. The American public was watching us closely, expecting results.”
With a sense of urgency, he said, “When we next gain power, we need to act decisively. We’re going to ensure that every Dreamer and every hardworking American has a path to legalization.” He defined a Dreamer as an undocumented immigrant who came to the U.S. as a child and has spent most of their life here, contributing to society and the economy.
Many Dreamers have pursued education, established careers, and started families with U.S. citizens, making them integral to the fabric of American life.
In a previous report from February 2019, O’Rourke had unveiled a “10-point plan” aimed at providing a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and their parents. His proposal, which sought to bring millions out of the shadows and onto the path to citizenship, is still a significant aspect of his vision.
As he hosts town halls throughout Texas, speculation is brewing about his potential Senate run in 2026, as highlighted by local news.
