A lot of money is being poured into the Dodgers this season to meet sky-high expectations.
A bettor at Caesars Sportsbook put down $80,000 for Shohei Ohtani’s Dodgers to win the National League West.
But with such a rosy outlook in Los Angeles, the dividend is far from a nod.
The Dodgers are -400 behind the Caesars after winning the division. That means bettors could win just $20,000 off their bets if Los Angeles finishes first in the National League West.
While that number may seem like a risky bet, the Dodgers are about as safe as any other team heading into the 2024 MLB season.
The Dodgers have won the division in 10 of the past 11 seasons, but fell short in 2021, when they finished one game behind the San Francisco Giants, who won 107 games.
Last season, they won 100 games and defeated the second-place Arizona Diamondbacks by 16 games to win the division.
And of course, the Dodgers added arguably the two biggest stars on the free agent market this winter, Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
It’s been 25 years since a team had a preseason outlook as optimistic as the Las Vegas oddsmakers have for the Dodgers this season.
The Dodgers’ preseason over/under total now stands at 103.5 wins, the highest since the Yankees’ 114-win season and eventual World Series championship in 1999. According to SportsOddsHistory.com.

The D-backs are projected to have the second-most wins in the division with an over/under total of 84.5 wins.
Of course, Los Angeles is also the heavy favorite to win the 2024 World Series.
FanDuel Sportsbook oddsmakers project the Dodgers to win it all this season at +320, which would be the best preseason odds since the 2007 Yankees were +300 on opening day at BetMGM.
