Bezos backs new Washington Post editor in wake of staff backlash

Jeff Bezos is standing by The Washington Post amid growing internal backlash over the hiring of two people: its new CEO and his choice of editor-in-chief.

Bezos, the billionaire tech mogul who has owned The Washington Post since 2013, expressed his support for CEO Will Lewis and his strategy to lead the paper into the next election in a letter to editors on Tuesday.

“As you’ve probably heard from Will, I wanted to speak out directly: The Washington Post’s journalistic standards and ethics will not change,” Bezos wrote in the memo, obtained by The Hill. “It is certainly true that at The Washington Post, we cannot continue to operate as usual. The world is rapidly evolving, and we as a business need to change.”

Lewis has a wide range Repulsion This comes after reports that he had fired former editor-in-chief Sally Busby in a planned reorganisation, and criticism over a scandal reported in his own newsroom about his behaviour at his previous job.

Over the weekend, the Post Concerns over the ethics of Robert Winnett, whom Lewis hired to replace Buzbee after the 2024 election.
