Bezos plans on selling 50 million Amazon shares during next 12 months

Jeff Bezos plans to sell a large amount of his Amazon stock next year, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Amazon, where Bezos is currently executive chairman, said in a filing Friday that its billionaire founder had a deal plan to sell up to 50 million shares. Under the pre-arranged plan, which he adopted in November, the sale will take place “over a period of time” until January 25 next year “subject to certain conditions”.

FOX Business has reached out to Amazon for comment on the deal plan, which was first reported by Bloomberg.

Seven other Amazon executive insiders also made trading plans to sell Amazon stock in November, according to SEC filings. However, Bezos held the largest amount of stock.

Bezos’ Amazon stock includes more than 988 million shares, according to a separate SEC filing. According to Forbes, these stocks make up the bulk of his $193.3 billion personal fortune.

The company’s stock price has been rising over the past year since the beginning of the day, with the latest rise tied to news that it generated $169.96 billion in revenue and $10.6 billion in net income in the fourth quarter. As of Friday afternoon, it was worth $1.77 in market capitalization.

Bezos has been Amazon’s executive chairman since July 2021, but before that he led the e-commerce giant as CEO for about 27 years.
