During a conversation on Saturday, President Donald Trump informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that his Gaza peace deal presents a chance for Israel to achieve a “victory” in the ongoing conflict.
This comment emphasized the beneficial terms Israel received in Trump’s proposal, while also highlighting the significant influence he has on Netanyahu at a pivotal time following his presidency’s initiation.
According to reports, Trump stated:
“I said, ‘Bibi, this is your chance for victory.’ He was fine with that,” Trump recounted. “He has to be fine with it. He has no choice. With me, you… I’m feeling well.”
Trump also mentioned that his team had warned him prior to the call that Netanyahu might be hesitant. However, he claimed that once they talked, Netanyahu was on board with proceeding.
“We received strong support for plans. Every country globally is on our side. Bibi is on board. Hamas has moved a significant way; they are willing to engage.”
The agreement aligns with Israeli requirements and proposes the release of all remaining hostages. It seeks to remove Hamas from leadership and calls for their disarmament. In exchange, Israel would pull back its military from significant areas of Gaza and outlines a framework for the Palestinian state once reforms are completed.
Hamas reacted negatively, showing reluctance to completely disarm—an aspect where it seems Israel is facing pressure from Trump, coupled with domestic demands to accept the deal.
Netanyahu seems optimistic about the agreement, suggesting in a speech on Saturday that the remaining hostages could start returning in the upcoming days during Sukkot. This follows the original terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, which occurred at the conclusion of Scott’s holiday.
Trump’s remarks seemed to resonate with the sentiments of Israeli voters, as he hoped that Netanyahu would help neutralize Hamas and secure the release of hostages. Similar to Muslim voters, he appeared to want Netanyahu to work towards ceasing hostilities.
