Apple’s digital guardian angel has come to the rescue once again. This time, a New York man claims a device on his wrist saved his life after calling 911 after a horrific bike accident left him looking like a “monster.”

“When I think about the events and events that the Apple Watch has helped me with, I feel very lucky and grateful,” said Eric Zollinger, 49. told Kennedy News While telling a tragic story. “This watch is very smart. Apple thinks of everything.”

The newspaper has reached out to Zollinger for comment.

The Midtown West-based real estate agent said the freak accident happened last month while he was riding his Citi Bike home from the office in heavy rain. This has long been his preferred mode of transportation, considering it’s “only five minutes” to his apartment.

Unfortunately, on his way to work, he encountered an “8-inch deep” pothole filled with water and hid it like a booby trap, so he headed south.

“We had a big storm and the pothole was completely flooded,” Zollinger said. “All of a sudden, I looked up and there was water and there was a car behind me. I had to get through that.”

Disaster struck when his bike crashed into an improvised drinking fountain and became stuck, sending it flying onto the pavement.

“I was thrown to the side and hit the concrete,” the New Yorker explained. “When I wake up, the first thing I check is if my teeth are OK because I got veneers a few years ago.”

He added: “Fortunately they were okay. I hit my right knee, I hit my face, between my eyes and my nose, and I hit my lip on my teeth, but you could barely see the blood.”

Zollinger then rode his bicycle to his home and inspected the extent of the damage. A subsequent examination in the bathroom mirror revealed what appeared to be a “fractured” nose and bruising to his face.

However, when the Gothamite tried to take a shower, blood started gushing from his nose, making the bathroom look like a “murder scene” as seen in the graphic. The photo was posted on Zollinger’s Facebook page.

After the cyclist tried to stand up, he became dizzy and passed out, causing him to slam into the side of the bathtub. A short time later, he woke up and, to his surprise, heard the sound of a 911 operator speaking to him through his Apple Watch.

“The next thing I remember hearing was, ‘911, what’s the emergency?'” Zollinger said, speaking as a literal wake-up call.

“When I fell in the shower and my Apple Watch hit the side of the bathtub, the impact caused me to call 911 and use the map to pinpoint my location to alert emergency contacts,” Zollinger said. recalled. Kennedy News and Media

As it turns out, the fall in the bathtub triggered the Apple Watch’s built-in fall detection feature, which “detects a severe fall” and alerts the user to emergency services. per site.

Zollinger said the watch “called 911 and provided emergency contacts with a map of my exact location.”

After canceling the call, the real estate guru visited a local hospital to get tested. Fortunately, scans revealed that “nothing was broken” and he was subsequently discharged from hospital.

Despite this, Zollinger was so aware of her disfigurement that she refused to leave her apartment for three days.

“It looked like a monster,” the patient exclaimed, but luckily the bruises healed within two weeks.

Ultimately, Zollinger credits the smartwatch with saving his life. “I don’t know what would have happened to me if the watch hadn’t warned me,” said one relieved Apple enthusiast.

This isn’t the first time this accessory has been used to “watch over” people in danger.

In December, a Delaware woman narrowly escaped death after using her Apple Watch’s SOS feature to call emergency services during a carbon monoxide leak.

And in 2022, a British man credited his Apple Watch with saving his life after it detected his heart had stopped nearly 138 times in 48 hours.
