The Biden administration on Saturday announced nearly $1 million in Pentagon arms aid to Ukraine. rhinocerospress release d.
The $988 million aid package will help the Ukrainian military “build and sustain combat power,” providing the country with munitions for rocket systems and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), as well as maintenance and repair programs. The statement also states that support will be provided.
The package marks 22 through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI).
The aid comes amid a nearly three-year war between Russia and Ukraine, which invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
Earlier this week, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) rejected a White House request to pass $24 billion in additional aid to Ukraine by the end of the year, saying that additional aid to Kiev would be left in the hands of President-elect Trump. He said he would make a decision. He will take office in January.
President Trump has claimed to end the Russia-Ukraine war in one day, but there are concerns whether the next president's administration will be as supportive of Ukraine as the Biden administration.
President Biden last month authorized Ukraine to use U.S.-supplied missiles to further attack Russia, a move generally supported by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to allow Ukraine to better defend itself against Russia.
