A senior adviser to President Biden is leaving the White House to take a top job advising a major Democratic super PAC ahead of the November election.
Anita Dunn, a member of Biden’s inner circle since he took office, is leaving to work for Future Forward, a group that has pledged to spend at least $300 million to support the Democratic front-runner, Vice President Harris, after Biden withdrew his candidacy, a source familiar with her plans told The Hill.
“Four years ago, I was grateful that Anita Dunn was with me when I launched my campaign in a battle for the soul of our nation,” Biden said in a statement. “I have known Anita throughout my career, and she has served our country through three administrations and countless campaigns for candidates at all levels.”
“Not only has she been a key senior member of our team that helped deliver a historic election victory in 2020, but she has also been an invaluable asset to the White House,” he added. “She is tough and experienced, and her experience and intellect have helped us deliver historic results for the American people.”
In a statement, Dunn said working in the White House was an “honor and privilege.”
White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients praised Dunn’s “insightful counsel, decisiveness and unmatched experience, which are on display every day. She has played a key role in shaping one of the most successful presidencies in modern American history.”
The Washington Post First reported Regarding Dan’s impending resignation.
Dunn and her husband, lawyer Bob Bauer, have long been influential figures in Democratic politics, including working on Mr Obama’s 2008 and 2012 campaigns and serving as White House communications director during the Obama administration.
Dunn joined the White House in 2021 after working on Biden’s campaign. She briefly left the administration to return to her consulting firm, but then returned to the White House as a senior adviser to the president.
Her husband, Bauer, is the president’s personal lawyer. He represented Biden during the special counsel’s investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents. Bauer also played the role of former President Trump in preparation for the June 27 debate between Biden and his Republican rival.
Biden’s performance in the debate prompted calls from some Democrats for him to step down as a candidate, which he did earlier this month. Harris has been rapidly solidifying her support among Democrats ahead of the party convention, which begins on August 19 in Chicago.
