Biden-Appointed Judge Blocks Pentagon Ban on Transgender Troops

A federal judge appointed to Biden on Tuesday blocked the Trump Pentagon from implementing a policy that bans transgender forces from serving the US military without exemptions.

US District Judge Anna Reyes granted a provisional injunction to implement Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses' policies issued last month. The injunction was sought by 20 plaintiffs who are currently serving and serving in the course of enlistment.

However, Reyes gave the Trump Justice Department until March 21 to appeal the ruling.

Furthermore, “long-term studies show very low regret rates, with most people reporting improvements in quality of life, body image satisfaction and overall well-being,” she writes.

Stephen Miller, deputy chief of staff for White House policy and homeland security advisors, posted to X after the ruling.

According to CBS News, a Justice Department spokesman was called “the latest example of an activist judge trying to take power at the expense of Americans who voted decisively for President Trump.”

Defense officials said that as of December 9, 2025, of the approximately 2 million active and reserve forces, there were around 4,200 service members diagnosed with gender discomfort.

The January Congressional Research Services Report stated that between January 2016 and May 2021, approximately 1,892 active members received gender-affirming care from DOD.

Despite its small number, DOD spent $52 million on treatment of gender discomfort between 2015 and 2024, according to a Pentagon Memo on February 26, 2025.
