Biden and his administration officials attended The White House Tribal Nation Summit gave tribal leaders an “opportunity to have direct and meaningful conversations” with Biden and his staff. Haaland has faced criticism throughout the year for her answers in Congressional hearings, particularly when she has struggled to answer basic questions about the development of large-scale wind farms in Idaho.
In May, Republican Sen. Jim Risch of Idaho asked Haaland about the names of people and entities supporting a massive wind energy project called Lava Ridge. Haaland suggested there is local support for the project, but could not name any organizations or individuals supporting the project.
The Department of the Interior (DOI) also came under fire in October for directing citizens to the websites of extremist activist groups that support terrorist sympathizers and condone violence against the United States and Israel. The revelations prompted Republican lawmakers to express their anger at Haaland, with Wyoming Republican Sen.
