Biden Campaign Botches Rollout of Hispanic Outreach Effort in Miami

The Biden campaign has come under fire in parts of Florida for what it says has been a failure in its efforts to support Hispanics in the Sunshine State.

According to Fabiola Santiago, miami herald, the Biden campaign introduced its outreach efforts to Hispanic voters at a party attended by Florida Democratic Party Chairman Nikki Fried, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, and Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniela Levin Cava. Santiago described the photo promoting the event as “three gringos launching ‘Latinos for Biden-Harris’ in luxurious Coral Gables.”

The event reportedly did not feature local media or major Hispanic stars of the Democratic Party. Santiago interpreted this to mean that the Biden campaign was focusing on Hispanic voters in battleground states like Arizona while handing over states to Republicans. According to the editorial:

Sending an attractive second generation gentleman means that our country is not an important nation. He is not a strong presidential surrogate within his party like the Obamas or the Clintons. He is a rising star with ties to Latinos, such as California Sen. Alex Padilla, the son of Mexican immigrants and an activist fighting climate change who is credited with passing the Power On Act to address disasters. do not have. Or like Hakeem Jeffries, the eloquent New York congressman who is slated to become speaker of the House if Democrats regain the majority.

Democrats could have brought Biden’s education secretary, Miguel Cardona, a respected educator born in Connecticut to Puerto Rican parents, to town. He could have eloquently talked about the devaluation of Florida’s education based on Republican political indoctrination, how the state is alienating minorities instead of embracing them, and how the governor’s cronies are appointed to key education positions. .

Democrats also brought in Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, a Cuban-American, to Biden’s campaign and publicly pushed back locally on spurious efforts by Republicans, including a Cuban-American from Miami in Congress, to impeach him. I could have done it.

State Democrats had little appreciation for Santiago’s criticism of the campaign’s development and publicly attacked her.

“We were very disappointed to see this incident.” [Miami Herald] Opinion column by [Fabiola Santiago]said the Florida Democratic Hispanic Caucus in X. The article not only failed to recognize the presence of statewide Democratic leadership, but also diminished the important role of Second Gentleman of the United States Douglas Emhoff. ”

The post went on to list a number of Hispanic leaders from around the state who attended the event held at the new Hispanic Caucus headquarters.

The criticism of Mr. Santiago, who is respected as a spokesperson for Hispanics in Florida media, set off alarm bells.
