President Biden’s re-election campaign is asking former President Barack Obama and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to help improve voters’ health care records ahead of November.
To commemorate the 14th anniversary of the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Mr. Obama and Mr. Pelosi will join Mr. Biden in a virtual event Saturday to mobilize supporters and volunteers, their campaign announced Wednesday.
Saturday’s virtual rally marks the start of events throughout the week in eight battleground states, including a wave of advertising and social media content.
These events indicate that the Biden campaign is eager to take on former President Trump over Obamacare, as the latter has once again moved to repeal the Obamacare law.
Biden and Democrats have long felt that health care is a win-win issue for them, and the president has turned to the pocketbook of cutting payroll costs amid broader concerns about the economy.
“Donald Trump has already tried once to repeal Obamacare and strip millions of dollars from health insurance, but he has promised to try again when he returns to power,” Biden campaign communications director Michael Tyler said in a statement. ” “President Biden will not allow that to happen. Under his leadership, premiums and drug costs will be lower, there will be a cap on insulin prices, and a second term will bring more people and lower costs.” will continue to protect and expand the ACA to cover families, especially for families. ”
More than 40 million people have health insurance through Obamacare, and this law is more popular than ever. Nine red and purple states have expanded Medicaid since a failed Republican attempt to repeal the law in 2017, when President Trump and Republicans controlled both chambers of Congress.
Three Republican-led attempts to repeal the law through the courts have also failed, including one supported by then-President Trump in 2020.
Since then, Republican lawmakers have largely acknowledged that the fight against Obamacare is a losing issue and have instead focused on issues such as crime, immigration and the economy.
