Biden campaign hits Trump with bilingual video on DACA anniversary

President Biden’s reelection campaign released a bilingual video Saturday blasting former President Trump’s dislike of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy, which was put in place in 2012 to protect immigrants from deportation if they arrived in the United States as children.

The title of this video is “I’ll stay here,” The video features footage of DACA recipients, commonly known as “Dreamers,” calling out Trump by name in a mix of Spanish and English, as they condemn his rhetoric about immigrants and praise the Biden administration’s moves to protect them.

“Joe Biden has a track record of protecting Dreamers like me,” one recipient who went by Mario said in a 49-second video released to mark the 12th anniversary of the DACA program. Another participant who went by Maria also praised Biden and Vice President Harris’ efforts to protect the program, including the administration’s move earlier this year to expand eligibility for health insurance under Obamacare to DACA recipients.

They also accused Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, of trying to separate “Dreamers” and “demonizing” immigrants.

The video also includes a brief audio clip of the former president claiming that immigrants are “staining the blood of our nation” – a phrase he continues to use that has come under scrutiny for its links to Nazi Germany.

Trump has long used inflammatory rhetoric about immigration to whip up his supporters but has intensified his rhetoric in recent weeks, warning of “immigrant crime” — a category he has said he coined to describe violence perpetrated by people in the U.S. illegally — and threatening mass deportations if he is re-elected this fall.

In response, participants called on voters to support Biden in November.

The Biden-Harris campaign also released a new ad on Saturday. “With the dreamers” The Vice President has pledged to fight for DACA.

A Biden-Harris campaign spokesman said in a statement that the administration continues to work to strengthen the program.

“As Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have proven time and time again, they will never stop fighting for Dreamers,” campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez wrote on Friday. “Dreamers are essential to our country and America is their home.”

“Meanwhile, Trump has become increasingly authoritarian, embraced racists like Joe Arpaio, and promised to end DACA, separate families, and set up mass detention camps for immigrants,” she continued. “Trump will do anything to benefit himself and his corporate allies, but nothing to improve the lives of the American people.”

“The American people deserve a president who is focused on providing solutions for them and their families, and the only president who can do that is Joe Biden,” Chavez added.

At a rally in Phoenix last week, Biden was seen with former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, whom the Biden campaign called “America’s most notoriously racist sheriff.” The encounter with the ex-officer, who is deeply unpopular among Latinos, prompted the campaign to run a hit ad condemning Trump.
