Biden chooses Delaware for his presidential library and starts fundraising efforts

Former President Biden has chosen his hometown in Delaware to house his presidential library, enlisting a mix of friends and former aides to help kickstart fundraising efforts for the project.

The management committee for the library, backed by the Joe and Jill Foundation, includes 13 members such as former Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, former Ambassador and Democratic fundraiser Rufus Gifford, and senior adviser Steve Richetti. This information was reported by the Associated Press on Saturday.

There seems to be a recognition among some individuals—perhaps they hadn’t previously considered this sort of initiative—that is beginning to shift. However, the committee is cautious about budgeting.

The fundraising efforts face challenges as Democrats work to advance after the Democratic National Committee has actively engaged with the Republican National Committee, which has successfully attracted political contributions following setbacks in the 2024 elections.

The estimated cost for the presidential library is on the rise.

For context, former President Clinton’s library had an approximate cost of $165 million, while former President George W. Bush amassed $500 million for his library. Meanwhile, former President Obama’s library saw its costs soar beyond $800 million.

Gifford, who served as the U.S. ambassador to Denmark from 2013 to 2017 and was the finance chair for Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign, suggested that Biden’s project may fall “somewhere in the middle” compared to the outcomes of the Obama Presidential Center and the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, according to the Associated Press.

Board senior members believe that once opened, the library will serve as “a hub of leadership, service, and civic engagement.”

They mentioned, “This project will create a lively and lasting space that combines history, learning, and civic leadership to inspire future generations, serve our community, and strengthen our nation,” as reported by CNN.
