President Joe Biden claimed Thursday during the first 2024 presidential debate that he is the “only president” this century to have no U.S. military deaths during his term.
Specifically, Biden said:
In fact, I am the only president in this century, in this decade, who has not had soldiers die anywhere in the world like he did.
This is incorrect.
During Biden’s presidency, 13 American troops were killed during the withdrawal from Afghanistan that he ordered in August 2021.
Additionally, three American soldiers were killed in January 2024 in Jordan after being targeted by Iranian-backed militia groups. stated:
